Prime Minister Manmohan Singh worried on Swine Flu outbreak – India faces epidemic

Prime Minister is worried. India is facing a devastating Swine Flu outbreak.

Dr, Singh spoke to Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad this afternoon and asked him to take steps to remove misinformation and educate people about the disease.

Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said “consignments of one lakh (Tamiflu) tablets have been flown to major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore. Government has also decided to make available at least 10,000 tablets to each district if they require it at any point of time.”

Seven Indian cricketers dominate ICC 2009 awards list

Dubai/Mumbai, Sep.2 (ANI): Seven Indian cricketers dominate this year's various LG ICC Annual Awards for 2009 to be announced in Mumbai later on Wednesday.

Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, openers Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag, off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, middle-order bats V V S Laxman and Yuvraj Singh and fast bowler Zaheer Khan feature in the list.

Dhoni, Gambhir and Harbhajan Singh have made the cut for the Cricketer of the Year award.

The trio has also been nominated, in the initial list, for the Test player of the year award along with stylish V V S Laxman.

Virender Sehwag wants to play more Tests than T20

The public might be enchanted with the Twenty20 format but swashbuckling Indian opener Virender Sehwag prefers to play Tests and ODIs
han the shortest form of the game that has taken the cricket world by storm.

"Personally I would like to play more Tests and ODIs than T20 games which I know have become extremely popular. I would like to play at least eight to 10 Tests in a year," Sehwag said at the media conference to announce the list of nominees for this year's ICC annual awards.

Metro lax in ensuring safety of workers: Delhi govt

Against the backdrop of recent accidents at Metro construction sites, the Delhi government has found that the DMRC is "lax" in ensuring safety of its labourers and warned of legal action.

"We are not satisfied with the steps being taken by Delhi Metro as far as working condition of the workers is concerned," State Labour Secretary K S Wahi said here today.

DNA samples from car match with 26/11 terrorists

A forensic expert today said DNA samples taken from articles recovered from the car used by 26/11 terrorists matched with the genetic footprints of slain terrorist Abu Ismael.

The samples were taken from a weapon, blood and jacket belonging to Ismael collected from the stolen Skoda car, the witness told special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam.

Tata's new plan: Talk endlessly for Re 1

New Delhi: Indian call charges touched a new low today with telecom operator Tata Teleservices' new tariff plan that allows CDMA subscribers unlimited hours on local calls for just Re 1.

In the new 'Pay-Per-Call' plan, the company has moved away from the usual practice of charging on a one minute-pulse basis. Instead Tata Teleservices pre-paid CDMA subscribers will be charged Re 1 for all local calls and Rs 3 for long distance calls, regardless of the duration.

Government not to oppose HC verdict on gay rights

NDTV has learnt that the government will not oppose decriminalising gay sex in the Supreme Court.

NDTV has exclusive information that in a note prepared by the Cabinet, the government will tell the Supreme Court that it doesn't find any legal error with the Delhi High Court ruling that read down section 377, decriminalising homosexuality.

It goes on to say that the government leaves it to the Supreme Court to take the final decision on the High Court's judgement, which said the consensual gay sex is legal.
